The new web site is up at:

All the latest information is there.

June 17, 2015

It's not big compared to the Whistler Gran Fondo, but it's big for us - 74 riders have registered for the Grind so far, with almost 2 days left to sign up.  Thanks for that.  And I think we have a pretty big age range, from young teen on up.

Also on June 15, 2015 we had a sponsor update - Along with the great sponsors we already had, Giant Bicycles of Canada joined the group.  Check the Sponsors page to see how you benefit.

Please check out the list of sponsors on the sponsor page.  So far we have:

Spin Cycles
Probar
Gibsons IGA
Persephone Brewing

I'm happy to add Giant Bicycles Canada to that list.  They're providing a free inner tube to each rider.  Please note that depending on your wheel type, the valve stem may not be appropriate for your bike.  Please make sure you have your own tube with you for the day of the ride.

Please check the Sponsor tab for direct links to the generous companies that are helping make the SCC Gibsons Grind a fun and memorable event.  If you have a moment, send them a quick "thank you" email.  I'm sure they'd appreciate it.

Online registration has been set up for the SCC Gibsons Grind.  For more information, please check under the Ride Info or the BBQ tabs above.

All three finalized courses are up.  Please check under the Ride Info tab.

The SCC Gibsons Grind will have roadside support this year courtesy of Spin Cycles.  If you have a mechanical problem or your knees just give out, like mine are likely to do, you'll be able to get help in short order.   Thank you Spin Cycles.

Refreshment Stations!  The kind people at Pier 17 in Davis Bay have given us permission to set up a refreshment stand in front of their store for a refreshment station.  That means that the 50 km riders will be able to make sure they have enough fluid and energy to get back to the barbeque.

This new addition at the 50 km turn-around point at Davis bay compliments the refreshment station we have already arranged on Redroofs Rd. for the 100 km riders.

June 9, 2014   Important Update

We've been really busy here working at making the Gibsons Grind the most fun you'll have on your bike this year.

Note that the start location and barbeque time has changed!
The changes are small but important.  Please see the Ride and BBQ tabs above.

The Grind routes are finalized and I have that information up now.  Links to details are about 2/3 of the way down the Ride Info page.

The barbeque will be held at the Eric Cardinal Hall at Shirley Macey Park.  The facilities there are great.  There's with a huge playing field for the kids, soccer nets, washrooms, lots of room to keep bikes and people dry if the weather turns bad (it's the Sunshine Coast, what are the chances?).  I understand there's even a disk golf course up there.  For the latest news, check the BBQ tab above.

Safe riding,

Larry

We had a great meeting with the people at the SCC last night and got most of the details worked out.  The SCC Gibsons Grind will be held on Saturday, June 28th.  The most current ride info is available under the Ride Info tab above.  There will be a post ride barbeque. Check for information under the BBQ tab above.  A lot is happening very quickly now and I will have more information available over the weekend.

Safe riding,

Larry

As mentioned on the home page, the Gibsons Grind will be held under the auspices of the Sunshine Coast Cycling Club.  This will provide insurance for the ride and it's organizers, which will allow us to take it beyond a group of friends and hopefully make it an event that draws participants from all over the Sunshine Coast as well as the Lower Mainland.

We hope to finalize the date for the ride this week.  The last weekend in June is the most likely date.

Building on the momentum from last year, PROBAR and blurr are sponsoring the Gibsons Grind again this year.

PROBAR will be providing nutritious and tasty real food bars for the riders.

blurr will be providing a bunch of cool clothing to be raffled off at the post ride barbeque.  Thanks to both for their generous involvement.

In addition, Spin Cycles in Gibsons has offered to provide some awesome prizes for the raffle.  Thank you Spin Cycles for years of great service and your support of the Gibsons Grind.

Please check out the Links tab on the home page for more information about our sponsors.

June 29,2013

Tomorrow it the big day.  We're scrambling to get all the last minute prep work done.  There has been a small change to both routes.  I have edited the maps on the Map My Ride link located on the Ride Info page.  The new 50 km route goes past a store in Davis Bay where you can stock up on refreshments, past the pier and then turns around at a restaurant to head back to the finish.  That should give you lots of opportunity to eat up for the ride back.  Both routes turn right at Flume Road to get to Roberts Creek instead of further down the highway at Roberts Creek Road.

Some people were having difficulty finding all the info they needed regarding the ride so now all ride information is under the Ride Info tab.  That includes start time, the routes, links to maps and elevations, and other pertinent information.

June 25, 2013

The Routes tab has all the ride info.  It has been reorganized and updated.

The BBQ tab has been added to make it easier to get the desired information for that event.

New Links are up.

PROBAR is going to be providing some nutritious bars for the riders.  We're working out how they will be distributed.  They may just be handed out at the beginning of the ride but we may have a station set-up somewhere on the road.  That doesn't mean you shouldn't bring you're own food.  It just means riders can count on a free snack to help them through the day.  I'll have links up later on Monday, June 24th.

blurr apparel will be providing a pile of goodies to be raffled off at the barbeque.  Click the BBQ or Links tabs above for more info.

There are a few new photos up.

Food arrangements for the barbeque are moving along.  Also, it looks like we are going to have a huge tarp set up.  That means we can be outside, enjoying summer regardless of the weather.  If you are planning to attend, please let us know as soon as possible.
